School Closures: Are they Necessary? Oakland's History and Avoiding Harm to Students

School closures are one potential result of the Blueprint for Quality Schools process that is taking place now. Would school closures help us to move more students into the stronger programs that OUSD has to offer? Would it help us to concentrate resources in a smaller number of schools? What does the research have to say about the impact of school closures on students? How can harm to students be mitigated if this step is taken?

We will look at the history of school closures in Oakland, to learn from the experience of others, and learn from what researchers have found from studying school closures as well. Full list of speakers to be shared soon.
